Moon

I tried to take some pictures of the "worm" moon (don't know why it's called that) last night through my bedroom window and they didn't turn out too well. My friend April posted a really nice picture of the moon. It is just so bright shining in my bedroom window.
Ah the marvels of the internet.
WORM MOON
As the temperature becomes warmer and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts reappear along with the return of robins. The northern tribes called this the Crow Moon, with the cawing of crows signaling the end of winter. Also known as the Crust Moon because the snow becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Sap Moon marked the time of tapping maple trees. Settlers also knew this as the Lenten Moon. A biblical name referring to the last full Moon of winter.

Friday

It's a beautiful sun shiny day, but cool. Supposed to warm up later this week. Did a few errands today and now home to put away the groceries. The groceries I bought without my list that I left at home. I did pretty good, only forgot one item out of 15.

No Carving Class

No class today. Our instructor is in the hospital. Pray for his speedy recovery and return to teaching us how to carve.
I can't believe that Sunday is Palm Sunday. I guess I should start planning my menu and buying the food that I need to cook. There will be 16 of us and one baby.

Yesterday

I drove Lee to the candlestick contest at her clay studio. There were about 15 entries and all who were there got to vote on them. The winner was the pair on the far left, 3rd was the black and white creatures up front and 2nd was my friend Pauline's orange and red flames, up front and to the right. Pauline also entered the set on the left with the blue candles. Lee's candlesticks are the turquoise and burgundy circles and the pink ones directly in front of her. I didn't buy anything as nothing was for sale.
We left there and went to the Super Target for a few things. That way she(and I) can get in her exercising.
I'm happy to report that I filed my income tax today. Have a refund coming.

Driving Miss Daisy

I'm driving my sister to the clay show of candlesticks. She has a couple of entries. I call her Miss Daisy because she has to sit in the back seat with a pillow protecting her incision. Can't sit in the front in case an air bag goes off.
Karrie finally arrived home from Texas. Their plane was to leave Dallas at 9:00 pm, she got home at 7:00 am. Seems they had to de-ice the plane then they sat and waited then it got too late and had to change pilots. She and her friend Billie were traveling with Billie's baby which must have been horrible.

Snow

Snowing this morning, but not sticking to the streets or sidewalk.
Cooking some smoked pork butt and cabbage to share with my sister and her family. Bought the pork butt at Celina's, the Polish market down the street. Sure hope it's good. I haven't made that in many years.
I didn't spend too much at the Pampered Chef party last night. Bought a roller for Karrie and one for myself and a soup skimmer. Now I'll have to make some soup to try it out.

No Posting

Gosh, I haven't posted anything all week. I'm sure it's the flu bug that hung around for a couple of days. I have been running around to Church, woodcarving class and errands and don't know where my time goes. Of course I manage a nap now and then. I wish I had the energy to get out and start cleaning up the leaves and dead plants, maybe next week. I'm going to a Pampered Chef party tonight, don't really need anything but Karrie wants a pastry rolling pin.

Winter returns tomorrow.

FLU

I went down Friday night spending the night in the bathroom. Nasty stuff. Saturday I was still moldy and yesterday a little better. My stomach still hasn't recovered, but did go to Church to do the payroll. Making some soup for supper.

Update on parking. There is a new parking sign up where I got the ticket and the arrow points in front of my car, so I got my parking space back. YEAH!

The Clown

The clown is finished. Carved in basswood and balloons from Wilton cake decorating. Still working on the tiger head.

EXONORATED

The Police Commander called and told me that he is negating the parking ticket and I am exonerated. He says that even though the spot is not clearly marked, it is not a handicap spot. Do I dare park there again? Maybe I'll wait until the sign is changed and the street is painted identifying the handicap spot.

New Growth

I went out to sweep the deck and wow, noticed flower buds on the pear tree and the daffodils are up about 3 inches. The temp today is in the high 50's, but off and on rain. Is it Spring yet?

Parking Ticket

I have parked across the street from Church for the past five years. This was known as Audrey's spot. Today I got a parking ticket for parking in a handicap spot: $350. There is a sign but it has always been assumed it was for the parking place in front of where I parked as the curb was painted blue. The curb is grey where I parked. I took pictures and went to the police department to no avail; then to the village hall to see if I could get the municipal code for handicap parking signage and markings. While I was speaking to someone from the village, out from the back office popped a friend. Mark who also goes to St. Matthew came out and said that the sign is not facing the right way and that he would let the adjudicator know that my ticket should be tossed. So I will have to appear in the Lemont Police Department in April to get my ticket thrown out.

Yesterday my sister wanted someone to walk with her down to the end of her block, so after she twisted my arm I went over there yesterday afternoon. Instead of walking on her block, she wanted to go to Target to buy some tops that wouldn't bother her incision. So she got in the back seat (driving Miss Daisy)with her heart pillow and buckled in. She can't sit in the front seat in case an air bag would go off and hit her chest. So we walked around Target and even went to Kohls. Today she knows that that is the limit. She was pooped when she got home.

Rain Today

At least it is rain and not snow. Have a friend in Arizona and she said it's raining there because the Sox/Cubs game was rained out. I'll bet the Cubs fans are happy. I have to run out and get some vittles and then just hang around here the rest of the day. Amazing Race is on tonight and then I guess its the Oscars since every thing else is a re-run.

WOW

Another glorious day. I even went out here and there just wearing a sweat shirt. No big bulky jacket. Karrie and Katie came in and we went to the Lemon Tree for lunch and then to visit Lee. She still is recovering nicely.

The Sun

A beautiful sun shiny day! Spring is on its way. Now the snow has to melt. I have a few chores to do today, including cutting some wood in the basement. I'll make sure I won't spend too much time down there, must enjoy the sun.

She's Home

Lee came home late yesterday afternoon and now on the road to recovery. She looks good and feels pretty good.

I went to carving class this morning. I haven't held a knife or gouge in my hand for a couple of weeks. My tiger head is coming along and so is the clown. I hope to get the clown painted this week. We have another woman in the class, so that makes three of us. I am still the queen bee.

I just hung two pictures in the upstairs hallway. Going to make it a gallery since I don't have any more spots on the downstairs walls. Now I have room to buy new artwork.

Coming Home?

Lee called this morning and she is pretty sure she will be coming home today. I hope so. Now for a good recovery at home. I think I'll make a pot of vegetable beef soup for her and her family to eat tonight, unless she opts for pizza.

Because my sister was on my mind, I did not post anything about the chili cook-off we had at church on Saturday evening right after the church service. There were 14 entrants and we tasted each one and then voted on the best, the hottest, the mildest and the most unique. There was a first and second prize for each category. The hottest was really HOT. It was a fun evening. I didn't submit an entry because my husband used to call my chili "its not chili chili". He preferred Hormel to mine. I brought cole slaw to cool the pipes.

My Sister on a Rollercoaster

Boy, she is sure having her ups and downs. I didn't post yesterday because she had a few problems, but today is much better. Yesterday morning she suffered an atrial fibrillation which causes the heart to race. They controlled that with medication but then her heart was slowed too much and her blood pressure dropped significantly and then she was attached to a portable pacemaker and her blood count was low so they gave her 2 pints of blood. She had no energy and just laid there like a wet dishrag. After the blood infusion she felt a lot better and was able to sit up in a chair and took a walk. I spoke with her this morning and she is still feeling good. She even asked for her makeup and put on some lipstick. Just talked to Karrie who visited her and said she is really looking good. Pray that this will last.
