Oktoberfest

Today we had an Oktoberfest dinner without the beer at Church after late service today. It was served buffet style which consisted of roast pork, Polish sausage, bratwurst, red cabbage, sour kraut, noodles, green beans, apple sauce and pigs in a blanket[little hot dogs wrapped in a crescent roll] and a huge table of desserts. I had an apple slice and a taste of black forest cake. All of this for a free will offering, yummy.

Tree Spirit

Just finished a fun carving of cottonwood tree bark. This was a practice piece for a bigger carving I plan to do. Ryan who walks in the woods looking for deer, found some pretty big pieces of bark. I have started on Christmas ornaments and am also working on the wolf's head.

 Tomorrow is an LWML rally at Trinity Church in Burr Ridge. We will be tying blankets; I don't know where they will go, but I'm sure it is for a good cause. Tomorrow is also the Lemont Street Fair on Lemont Street. They will have vendors, antiques, food and music, all for the benefit of the Lemont Historical Society.

Monday

No Bible study, all  in the class are busy tonight.

I went to the grand opening of the Lemont Center for the Arts Saturday. In the afternoon for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony and in the evening for the reception. It was crowded at both events and being as its in a small space didn't help.

Lemont Center for the Arts

The Center is in a store front located at 1243 Lemont Road, Unit 101. That is in between  Aldi's and the beauty shop. The opening exhibit will run from today to October 2, 2010. I'm not a member of the commission, but I know they are trying to bring art and culture to Lemont. They were responsible for doing mosaics on the planters in downtown Lemont and they are planning some sort of art show to be held on October 2 in both the Jewel area and the Aldi area.
Two of my pieces will be on display in this exhibit; the Indian and the relief carving of my Church.

Friday

Still trying to come up with a 2010 Christmas ornament, will try another today.

Tomorrow is a busy day, the  Art and Culture  Commission's grand opening of the Lemont Center for the Arts at 1:00 pm. Then a 3:00 meeting of the Advent Committee to come up with an idea for our Advent Project. I spent quite a while searching the web for some ideas. Hope we can come up with an easy one. Then a 7:00 pm reception at the Center for the Arts, with refreshments and music.

Where does my time go?

I can't believe it is Thursday already and I haven't posted anything since last week. The time just seems to fly by. I'm through with my tests; so far I did ok on the nuclear stress test and am still waiting for my mammo and bone density results.

Last Sunday was the Church picnic and I just have to show the cookies my friend Kathy and her Daughter Diedre made.  They are so cute and Kathy says time consuming. The hot dogs are made of circus peanuts for the bun and with an elongated caramel for the for the hot dog. The hamburgers are made of vanilla wafers for the bun with sesame seeds added  and a chocolate mint cookie for the hamburger. Condiments are icing.

Today was woodcarving and I am working on a wolf's head. Yesterday I started thinking about Christmas ornaments, as I have many to  make. I was working on a caricature wine stopper and needed an ear for a model, so I took a picture of my ear. Digital cameras are great, instant images.

Stress Test

Today I went for a nuclear stress test. When they asked me why I was having it, I just said I was old and that's why the doctor ordered it. I don't have any complaints in that area. I won't know the results until next week some time.

I just had to show the picture of this creature that was in the parade. It even scared the adults. Quite creepy.

First woodcarving Class of the Year

Keith was his usual old self, cracking jokes and being Grumpy. We have another FULL class, we had to add another table. They are all returning students except for one new woman who happened to cut herself and had to wear the big red blood drop that says Klutz. We now have four women in the class; many times I was the token woman.
Sonya is doing better and drove herself to the Center to have lunch with Dan and the Lion's Club even though she can only eat soft foods. It was good to see her up and about. The pen and ink group start next week.

Where have I been?

Right here fighting with my computer and comcast. For some reason it just refuses to display web pages. It's ok right now, but who knows how long it will last.
Labor Day, I went to the Keepataw Days parade in Lemont. Our Church has a brat shop; we sell brats, hot dogs, nachos, walking tacos, funnel cakes, pop and water. We sold a lot but don't know how well we did.
Today was the Lutheran Women's Missionary league's Mighty Mite Morn. Marianne and I prepared the lunch with Wanda helping to set up. And lots of helpers to clean up. We had a salad bar with lettuce, grilled chicken and ham, and other things to build a salad. Marianne made a shrimp pasta salad and deviled eggs and I made a couple of pasta salads from Kraft with a few embellishments added in. Also had some zucchini bread, orange bread, pecans and raisin bread, garlic toast and french bread.  For dessert we had brownies and ice cream and pineapple angel food cake frosted with cool whip.  The whole salad bar went over very good, but I don't think we will do that again. It was a lot of work and a lot of money. We will make it simple next year.

Yellow Jackets

How does one get rid of yellow jackets hogging the hummingbird feeder. The poor little hummingbirds come for a drink and the rotten yellow jackets chase them away. They manage to get in once in a while when one of the feeding stations are empty. I think the holes are too big. I don't recall having this problem with my other feeder.

Me

I'm still too lazy to download the couple of pictures I took of family last Saturday. Since I haven't posted anything since then thought I would share with you a picture of me that was unearthed during the party of going through old photos. The party was fun with boxes of photos from my cousin and her mother. My niece scanned a bunch of the photos and put them on Facebook.

The weather today is unbelievable. This a.m. it was in the low 60's after having some hot, humid days, this is appreciated. Turn off the a/c. I have a list of chores I want to get done today. One is to clean out the grease in the barbecue. This week when I was cooking, I had a big fire in the grill and thought it would melt the siding on the house.
