I don't know where my time goes, but it sure keeps moving. Today is payday at Church, so I'll be off to make a few people happy. Tomorrow Kathy is having an open house for our new intern. No plans as yet for fourth of July.
Today is another gorgeous day. Low 80's and no humidity.

I'm Lazy
It takes 3 days to post the final VBS picture. This is the last craft, it was a hand puppet that they could create in to their own superhero which was the theme of this year's VBS. They also got a hero medal on a leather cord that they could decorate with beads. The best snack of the week, sugar cookie ice cream sandwich, yum.
Yesterday the Church welcomed our DCE intern, Peter. We had a reception right after Church with cookies, cakes and various finger food. I made Rich's stuffed date with bacon wrap. They were a big hit and went well with the tiny quiches that were served. The youth planned a scavenger hunt for him to visit different places around town so he knows where everything is. He received gift cards at each of the stops. The last stop was Three corners bar and grill which is just up the street from me. I went over there to greet them and then had a late lunch early supper. Great burger on pretzel bread and ginormous onion rings.
Today starts a new Bible study, the Lutheran Difference. The next five sessions will be about Baptism.

VBS Day 4
Another day at VBS. Today our craft was decorating small little candy dishes and butterfly magnets. Pictures below are of the shields from yesterday and today's craft.
I think I'm getting too old for this. Maybe I should retire and let some of the younger people take over. My legs are tired from standing and bending over to help the kids. Another nap is in my thoughts. I have Praise team practice tonight.
We had a nasty storm last evening and my power went out for three hours. So I went outside to see what was happening and not much was after the first of the storm blew by when I was in the basement because the sirens were wailing. I also read by flashlight and called Com Ed numerous times.

VBS Day 3
I forgot my camera today, so no picture of the craft. Today was the messiest so far. They painted pizza cardboard as a shield and then could add a few "jewels" for enhancement. I'll get a picture tomorrow.
Today we got to meet our DCE [director of christian education], Peter. He will be with us for a year. Hopefully he adds some much needed spark to our congregation.

VBS Day 2
Just not as many kids as we have had in the past. Don't know why, if kids are busy with other activities like swimming and boy scout camps. One little guy who normally comes was going to a Lego camp and he gets to keep a great set of Legos.
Here are two of the crafts we've made so far. The first craft was a dish towel that they colored with crayon and the second is a bunch of sheep and a Christmas ornament to celebrate Jesus' birth. The snack for the day was a cupcake decorated with marshmallows to resemble a sheep's face. That was a real treat.

VBS Day 1
It was a good day in the craft department. The kids drew on a white dish towel with crayons and then we ironed them to set the color. They also decorated hero masks. So it was a pretty clean day, no mess. Tomorrow they will be making sheep and Christmas ornaments. A child is born!

Kane County Cougars
This afternoon it's off to see the Kane County Cougars with a group from Church. Karrie and Katie(Ryan is working 16 hour days for 13 straight days since the tornadoes in Streator) are meeting us there. I can't remember when I went to a ball game last, but I know it was the Cubs with a group from work. I remember the first time I went to a Cub game with an RRD sales rep and his customer. I had to read the lineups in the paper beforehand because I didn't know any of the Cubs players. I got stuck sitting next to the customer. I was and still am a Sox fan.
We had a couple of storms come through here yesterday. Did not lose power then, but did in the middle of the night. I woke up somewhere around four with no air or fan. I wandered around the house with a flashlight and heard the noise of a loud generator across the street. Power went on in a couple of hours.

Car Show
I went to the Lemont car show in downtown Lemont. They close down Main Street and have the cars on display. The cars are also shown on some of the side streets. Our Church sells pork chop sandwiches, walking tacos and funnel cakes. There are a couple of other vendors selling food. I walked up one end and down to the other looking at the old gems. Then I sat for a while and listened to the band, Work In Progress. My friend Glenn plays guitar. Was supposed to meet up with Sharon and Fred, but our paths never crossed.
Today it's off to the audiologist to have my hearing aids tuned up so I can hear the kidlets next week in VBS.

Tuesday
Today is payday for the Church employees, so I'm off to make a few people happy. Tonight is Leadership Council meeting and Pastor is back from his vacation. Last night we had Bible study and finished the series we had been working on. We had a three week hiatus because of different events occurring on Mondays. We will also take next week off because four of us will be working at Vacation Bible School and will probably be too tired to study.
I have finished Jamus, the clown I've been working on and he just needs a few coats of lacquer to finish him off. Pictures later.

Black Hawks
Today is the day of the big parade in downtown Chicago to celebrate the Black Hawks winning of the Stanley Cup. My two nephews left early this morning to be part of the festivities. Me? I'd rather sit in the cool of my family room and watch it on TV.

Cut and Sew
Today a group of Church ladies are getting together to make lap quilts for the sick and hospitalized folks. I don't sew but I can be a cutter. If this works out we will make this a regular event. If we have a lot of quilts made we can give some to the newly formed Sharing Sonshine group that will be visiting the local nursing home to bring cheer to the residents.
Last night the LWML group had our make your own banana split night. The Northern Illinois District president was to show us a slide show of her mission trip to Nigeria but unfortunately the computer was not cooperating. She did bring an outfit that she wore and told some pretty funny stories.

Summer Fest
I just returned from Summer Fest at the Children's Farm. It rained during the morning but the sun is shining now. We had a great spot on the porch of the Anderson building. Not a lot of traffic but we stayed dry. They didn't have the crowd they normally do and some of their vendors didn't show up. I sold only one book mark all day. I gave Dave and Ann each a little pig with their name tag on it because they stayed, ate and slept in the pig pen for 27 hours as a fund raiser. They were real happy to get the pig as a reminder. I still have pigs and sheep to sell.

Farm Animals
I've been busy carving a few farm animals to take to the Children's Farm on Saturday for the Summer Fest.
We will be demonstrating wood carving to show what can be learned at the Log Cabin for the Arts. They are calling for rain in the afternoon, hope it holds off until evening. The Children's Farm is located at 127th and Southwest Highway in Palos Park. Come on out and say hey and enjoy the fun.

June 1
Yesterday Karrie, Ryan and I went to Lee and Tom's for ribs, both beef ribs and baby back pork ribs. The afternoon and evening turned out to be a nice. We also celebrated Ryan's birthday. Lee and I gave him gift cards to Bass Pro Shop. On their way home they had to stop and use the cards. He bought another trail cam so he can check out who and what is walking in the woods.
I have been working on a few small carvings that I saw in a magazine. These are book marks that sit on top of the book pulling a cord that has a little wooden book attached on the bottom of the book. These pictures were taken in my new image maker light tent which is also pictured below. I sure wish it came with some instructions. I guess its by trial and error.
