Since the weather has been crummy I managed to finish the eagle closeup. It's a relief carving that measures 5-1/2 X 6-1/2. He is carved from a picture I found on the internet.

More Weather
It is warmer today than the other day. It is a whopping 60 degrees and rain. There was a crack of lightening during our Bible study that sounded like an explosion. One of the guys went upstairs and a couple of people told him that it must have struck somewhere across the street.

Weather
How crazy is this weather? It feels like Fall. Today it is 47 degrees and rainy and they are predicting the temps to be in the 90's over Memorial day weekend. The poor plants outside don't know if they should fold up their leaves and turn brown or start growing. C'mon sunshine!

Ronald McDonald House
Today some of our ladies from LWML went to Ronald McDonald House to drop off pop tabs that we have been collecting and got a short tour. They in turn recycle the tabs and receive money that they use to run the house. Here are a few of the pictures from this outing.
Just arrived and greeted by Ronald

Planting
I hope it clears up some today. I'd like to get out and plant some things. I was out at Alsip's Nursery, M&D Farms, Touch of Green Nursery and Home Depot. Some of the plants looked a little droopy. I did manage to buy lots of stuff for planters and still have a few perennials to plant. All of the plants are waiting in the garage for me to attack.
Today the Confirmands find out who their secret pal was all year. Our Lutheran Women's Missionary League adopt a confirmand and send them cards and gifts throughout the year. Mine just joined the group in February so I just had her for Easter and now a confirmation gift.

Plant Sale cont'd.
I spent $17 at the plant sale and now have to get them in the ground. I also went to a friend's house(Ellie) in town; they live on a half acre of wooded property. What a beautiful backyard, its all flowers and trees with a path that meanders through the woods. They also have a little creek that runs through the yard that is lined with cobble stones, and they have a bridge that crosses the creek. Bob her husband does not let the yard go wild, he picks weeds all the time. He says its easier than cutting grass. They spent $57 on more perennials at the plant sale. They also gave me some ( a big bunch) of creeping phlox. I did get that planted. Now I have about 6 more pots of other stuff to plant. I have to take it a little at a time, but I'll get it done.
Plant Sale
Today is the Lemont Garden club's plant sale at the park district. The women thin out their perennials and sell them. I'll run over there and see if there is anything that would survive my yard.

Today
Today was our Mighty Mite Morn, we have a brief service at church followed by a lunch. Today was sloppy joes, potato salad, chips and dessert. The reason its called mighty mite is that we save coins and more in a little "mite" box and is reminiscent of the story in the Bible where the widow gave all she had to the Lord, 2 mites. The money we collect is sent to the district and national group to help pay for the mission grants that were voted on at the convention.
No carving tomorrow; seems our instructor is ill. Hope he feels better.
I put on a pan of water and some sugar to make hummingbird nectar and came into the family room to read and completely forgot about the pot until the smoke detector started screaming. Boy was it smokey. The pot is a disaster with burnt sugar. Right now I have it soaking in boiled water and dishwasher soap. I've googled "how to clean a burnt pot" and one of the remedies was to put peroxide and water and bring it to a boil. I was going to try that until I read that the mixture could explode in your face and that the fumes were nasty. So I hope the dishwasher solution works.

Voter's Meeting
Yesterday at noon we had a voter's meeting to decide on whether we should move forward with building a new all purpose room on the 127th street site. It was a unanimous yes.
I went to my sisters yesterday for a smoked chicken and rib dinner. Tom, my brother-in-law has a smoker and does a great job with the meat. We also had corn on the cob which is not local, but tasted good after so many months without it.
