Back from Portland

The trip was great! Marge and I and 3198 other women. There were a few men there, pastors and some husbands. The picture above is the convention hall before the seats were filled and they were.
Marge and I on the way up to Mount Hood. And me wearing my LWML cap.

And this is the top of Mount Hood. It was 38 degrees up here. They are able to ski year round on the mountain.
And I did find a boyfriend while there. He was a big guy, but didn't talk at all. The strong silent type.
We come back all energized to raise money for missions. There were great inspirational speakers and the woman that taught the Bible study was great. It was about women in the Bible, Deborah,Ruth, and Naomi. She gave a great lesson with humor thrown in.
We didn't need the umbrellas we packed, the weather was great.

Tomorrow at o dark thirty we leave for Portland and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League convention. I'm really looking forward to the trip as I have never been in that neck of the woods before. I do have my umbrella packed.

Happy Father's Day

To all.

Pastor did the children's sermon today with Gizmo the star of VBS last week. Some of the kids ran away when Gizmo came out and some just sat there and laughed. Gizmo was created by one of our members out of a garbage can, with blinking lights and all. Ken is a real engineer.

The Last Day of VBS

Phew, I'm beat. VBS was a great success due to Nancy and Ken who were the directors and all of the volunteers that worked. The last craft that they made was a decoupaged wooden board with John 3:16 glued to it. And they added some hearts and butterflies and another masterpiece.

The treat was a heart shaped piece of bread with red jelly and a couple of cookies.

A New Carving

Just thought I'd post this little gator. I saw his picture in a magazine. He is only 5" long.

VBS 4th Day

Today went ok. I managed to sit down for a while. We painted votive lights and sun catchers today. Twas a little messy as the glass paint came in little containers that tipped easily. The picture above is the sample.

These are some that the kids did.

This was the snack. It was supposed to represent an eye, but unfortunately I took the picture upside down. Its a scoop of vanilla ice cream, with chocolate sauce and red licorice strips for eye lashes.

VBS Day 3

I'm running out of gas. Good thing there are only 2 days to go. Today we made wind chimes. Pauline, our craft lady made a bunch of clay hearts, crosses and butterflies. She is a potter. They were painted by the kids and then attached to a clay pot with a Bible verse.

And this was the treat for today. A rice cake with raisin eyes and nose, apple slice ears and a candy orange slice nose. I think the kids went for the attachments and not the face.
Time for a nap.

Day 2 VBS

We had a few more kids today. They did water color over a magic message written in white crayon.

The message says "Jesus makes me new".

These are some of the children's masterpieces.

This was the snack for the day. Cheese, pretzels, fruit loops, and marshmallows.

And a fun day was had by all. Tomorrow wind chimes.

1st Day of VBS

Today was the first day of Vacation Bible School. We only had about 30 kids from age 4 to 6th grade. They created robots from recyclables. I wish I took a picture of all of the ones the kids put together, they have some imagination. This is the one that was used as a sample. Old cereal boxes, paper towel tubes, and egg cartons were used. Tomorrow will be a water color of their choosing with a Bible verse written in crayon showing through.

Gloomy Again

I'm getting sick and tired of this weather. Nothing but clouds and rain and cool weather. At least yesterday was a glorious day. I sat out on the deck enjoying the gentle breezes and did get the gnome home polyurethaned. It is supposed to be nice tomorrow and I hope it is as there is a pool party at Glenn and Kathy's place for all of the past Church board members and all of the new ones. I am making cole slaw as it is a "bring a dish to pass" affair.

The Gnome Home

Here is the gnome, his name is Jerome.
He lives all alone, in this little home.

He needs a few coats of poly to finish him off. I carved the house with the piece I had left over from the hummingbird feeder, which by the way the hummingbirds have not used it as far as I can see. They are going to the plastic feeder which is right near the carved one.

A Gloomy Day

Its raining and cool, not a day for outdoor activities. Maybe I'll work in the garage and try to straighten it out. I do have a a carving to paint, but maybe I'll start it this afternoon. Its a gnome home along with a little gnome who lives there. Picture when its done.

A Quiet Week

No plans for this week, a time to just vedge out and relax. Vacation Bible School starts next week, so I'll wish I had this quiet time. I help Pauline with crafts.

Sunday

The Praise Team sang this morning and now we are off for the rest of the month. Ah, no practice. There was a "gold party" after Bible study that benefited the youth. People brought in their old gold and a jeweler was there to pay you cash for it. I brought in an old necklace that I would swear was gold and it was not, so I got 0. The youth were getting 10% of what the jeweler paid for the old gold. While I was there, one woman earned $312 and another $200. So for some it was fruitful.

Saturday

Can't go to the Summerfest at The Center. Its a great place to go and eat burgers and hot dogs and see the farm animals. I have gone in the past and was part of the group of artists showing their craft.
Today its a graduation party at my nephew Tony's house. Sure hope it doesn't rain.

Lunch

Today its lunch with some RRD retirees and one employee at Uncle Bubs in Westmont. Should be fun to catch up on what we are up to.
Yesterday Lee and I went to the Wilton tent sale, lots of people. She spent $80 and I only spent $20. I was looking for a small frying pan, but they didn't have any. I might go back another day, it runs till June 16. They have different stuff on different days. They had tons of scrapbooking stuff, but I'm not into that. And naturally lots of cake decorating stuff and cake pans.

VBS Prop

This is the painted VBS prop that depicts the water jugs in the miracle of the wedding in Cana. Now it needs to be picked up as it doesn't fit in my car.
Another dreary day.

Banana Split Night

Every June, our Lutheran Woman's Missionary League has a banana split night and meeting. You build your own. This was mine, three kinds of ice cream and three different toppings and of course whipped cream. Sherri, our district president gave a slide show of her mission trip to the flooding in Iowa last year. What a terrible thing. The houses that were not torn down had to be completely gutted down to the studs and then rebuilt.
It's forecast to be a rainy day today and cool. So I hope to finish the painting of the water jugs that were turned to wine at the wedding in Cana. Of course this too is for VBS which starts in a couple of weeks.
