I just posted a new recipe on the Mom Whats Cooking blog. Its a very refreshing salad made with fresh sweet corn, jicama and lime. Its great to make now when sweet corn is at it's peak.
I have to get out and water the pots on the deck. Those plants get very thirsty in this heat.

Another Hot One!
Yep, its hot out there. I went to the farmer's market and didn't dawdle. Had my list and I was out of there. The Mirai corn is in. I had to pick up some for my sister and I got six for myself. They come packed six in a bag. I'll give a couple away and have some for my supper tonight. Yummy!
I also ran to Walmart to pick up some small bottles of water and some Krylon Matte finish lacquer.

Saturday
I've been busy all week but nothing to exciting. Went to see my surgeon on Tuesday and he said everything looks A-ok, see him in a year. We also had Cut and Sew, we've completed 45 adult bibs made out of a towel with a hole cut in it to slip over the head. These will be donated to a couple of places that service people with developmental disabilities. That same day I went to the Lemont S.A.L.T. [Seniors and Law Enforcement Together] meeting and they had a police woman showing us how to defend ourselves and it wasn't all about a kick to the crotch.
I've tried to get some carving done and prefer to do it outside, but some of these days have been just too hot.

WOW!
That was some storm that just blew through. Radar looks like the worst is past, but maybe more this afternoon. The lights keep blinking and I just hope that the power doesn't go out. It is to be another hot day.

Yard work
Yesterday morning was perfect for pulling weeds and cutting back the mulberry branches that keep popping up in places they shouldn't be. I think they just grow inches as you watch them. Wish I had something that would kill them. I was pulling weeds around the area where I planted tiger lillies that Suz gave me. It seems some critter likes them, eaten right down to the root. I have two survivors that I hope will be ok.
Yesterday I visited my friend Dan at the Lemont Center. He is there for therapy and will be there another week. He did say that he is walking better than when I last saw him. He seemed in pretty good spirits.

Yesterday
I went to a lovely wedding yesterday at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Cedar Lake Indiana. My cousin Marty's daughter got married in the gazebo overlooking the lake. The reception was immediately following in their upstairs banquet hall. There was a wonderful assortment of hors douvres and dinner consisted of filet mignon or salmon. Very good. The couple knew each other in high school and reconnected on Facebook two years ago. I think they are in their late 30's so their first dance was to Etta James At Last.
Today I'm just hanging around cooking ribs and working on decorations for our new intern's welcome party next Sunday.

Heat?
Yesterday the weather guy blew it again. The temp was supposed to be in the 90's with the heat index in the 100's. So I planned on just hunkering down in the air conditioning. For most of the day the temp stayed in the mid 70's and I just tinkered around carving and cutting out wood blanks for future carving. It feels a little steamy this morning, so it could get nasty by afternoon.
Our Church is getting a new DCE Intern [Director of Christian Education] who will be starting on July 10th. I am on the welcome committee and spent one day last week running around to dollar stores looking for decorations. The theme is welcome wagon with a western touch. So I did find a purple cowboy hat[LWML color is purple] for his wife, and a ravelled straw farmers hat for Ben. Then I found these little baskets that I could put wheels on and flowers in the basket for table centerpieces. I sliced the wheels from a wooden closet rod and drew in the spokes.
I have to get back to that $ store to pick up more baskets. I think we will need about 10, so that means I have to make 40 wheels for the cart.
