Another Good Day

Yesterday I took my car in to Discount Tires for a slow leak. They fixed it for free, I don't know if all tire stores do that, but I sure appreciated it.

And today I got a letter from Comcast that they are crediting my account $25 because they were late. They said they would be here between 10 and 1 and the guy got here at 1:05. So I'm a happy camper.

Since I was in such a good mood, I thought I would attempt to clean the dried gourds that I bought last year. I think in the future I will buy cleaned gourds because I'm not having fun. The top one is waiting for its bath. The other two are soaking until I get out there with a scrubber. And then I have to clean the insides.

Ooh, those are the little gifts that just make your day, aren't they? When I started reading your post about the tires and saw the picture I thought you ran over a concrete post of some kind. But, it's just a gourd. Eeeww never saw them look like that.

That's how they are before cleaning. They are hung in sheds to dry and mold forms over them. The ones I bought were pretty crummy and it was a messy job. I cleaned them out on the deck using a copper pot scrubber. There is a place in California that sells cleaned ones.

I grew some one year, Audrey. They are down in the basement for years now. Never really got into cleaning them. A copper pot scrubber, huh? They are birdhouse gourds, so would like to do something with them. You cut the hole while they are still a little soft from soaking, right?

No, they don't really get soft. I have a little saw that I bought for cutting the gourd. After you cut the hole, you use a stick to loosen all of the dried up stuff from the inside and pour it out. I have a birdhouse gourd in my tree and the birds ignored it for the first few years. Then they found it, I thought I had to clean it out each year and didn't but the birds came anyway.
